Esti Shvarzman // THE LAST OUTFIT

 

Most people spend their lives trying to fit in, dressing and behaving like everyone else. As a fashion designer I aspire to enable people to express themselves as individuals through clothes.

This paradox served as the starting point for my graduation collection. I thought about the moment in life we all fear, death, in that moment when we have a last chance to represent ourselves will we fear or shine?

To explore this question, I interviewed many people and from their answers I comprised characters with different wants and needs.

My graduation collection uses archetypes from “Normcore” fashion, those worn by people who want nothing more than to conform and visual inspiration from the queer ballroom scene. The extreme polarity between conformism and individualism are manifested in the pattern and textile manipulations I created. Nonbinary performance looks the enable the wearer to tell their story through clothing, without inhibition or regrets.

We never know when death will occur so there is no time like the present to be you!
