Aya Letzter – TRASH TALK
The belief that every product destined for disposal after its use has significant consequences on the environment and society. Mounting waste piles contribute to environmental degradation, while the constant influx of new products fosters a culture of single-use and dissatisfaction.This collection delves into "trash culture" - a mindset accepting and promoting waste and overconsumption. Through a maximalism approach, it highlights surplus, flamboyance, and a more-is-more attitude.In the collection, I look at everything that has "finished its function" and is now considered trash - dead stock, textile waste, and consumer products that have been thrown away. I carefully observe every product that has finished its life, got piled up, and left behind. Through disassembling and assembling, embroidery, patchwork, digital and manual prints, and other slow processes,
I try to give trash a new life.

לאמונה לפיה כל מוצר שמסיים את תפקידו גורלו להיזרק בחברה הצרכנית והמשתנה של ימנו ישנן השלכות משמעותיות על הסביבה והחברה. ערימות הפסולת ההולכות וגדלות תורמות להידרדרות סביבתית והזרימה המתמדת של מוצרים חדשים יוצרת תרבות של חד פעמיות וחוסר סיפוק.
הקולקציה מתבוננת ב״תרבות הטראש״, תרבות המתייחסת לחשיבה החברתית שבה מתקבלים ואף מעודדים בזבוז וצריכת יתר ומנסה להתחקות אחר מאפיינים אלו דרך שימוש במאפייני המקסימליזם המדגישים עודף, ראוותנות וגישה של יותר-זה-יותר ליצירת בגדים.
פריטי הקולקציה נוצרו מתוך עיסוק בחומרים שסיימו את תפקידם- מוצרי צריכה שנזרקו, שאריות טקסטיל, סחורה פגומה וסחורות של בתי עסק מקומיים שנסגרו,
בקולקציה אני מחפשת להתעכב ולהתבונן בכל מה שסיים את תפקידו, נערם ונשאר מאחור, ובאמצעות פירוק והרכבה בתהליכים איטיים ובעבודות יד, להפיח בחומרים אלו חיים חדשים, בניגוד לקצב ולתחלופה הכל כך מהירים שמאפיינים את זמננו.
